Only 31% of Native Species are currently secure.
Continued conservation efforts are critical for Aotearoa’s wildlife.
Native species depend on our continued conservation efforts.
New Zealand’s wildlife is found nowhere else on Earth, yet much of it faces an uncertain future. Today, only 31% of our native species are considered secure, with the majority experiencing some level of threat from habitat loss, introduced predators and environmental change.
Without sustained conservation action, even well-known species such as the brown kiwi could disappear from the wild within just a few generations.
Across the country, conservation organisations, communities and volunteers are working together to reverse this trend.
Through wildlife care, education and habitat restoration, the Willowbank Foundation is helping strengthen these efforts — supporting projects that protect native wildlife and restore the natural environments they depend on.
