National Vision: Predator-Free 2050 Aotearoa
A national effort to restore balance to New Zealand’s ecosystems.

A bold national effort to remove introduced predators and give native species the chance to thrive.
New Zealand’s Predator Free 2050 vision aims to remove introduced predators such as rats, stoats and possums — some of the greatest threats to the survival of our native wildlife.
For species like kiwi, takahē, whio and pāteke, predator control is critical to protecting nests, chicks and vulnerable populations. Across the country, iwi, conservation organisations, community groups and volunteers are working together to reduce predator numbers and restore native ecosystems.
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve supports this national vision through species recovery programmes, breeding initiatives and conservation advocacy — helping strengthen native wildlife populations and raise awareness of the importance of protecting Aotearoa’s unique wildlife.
